Questions to ask before choosing an electricity supplier

  1. What is the price of your electricity, excluding delivery costs? What is your charge per kilowatt-hour (kWh)? Are all kilowatt-hours charged at the same rate? If not, how does the rate change during the day or during the length of the contract? Do you offer any incentives?
  2. How long will the price last? Is this the total price, or are there other charges?
  3. How much will I save on my monthly electric bill if I switch to your company?
  4. Will I be required to sign a sales contract? A service contract?
  5. What are the steps for applying for your service?
  6. Are there any restrictions on how much electricity I use and when I use it?
  7. How will I be billed for your electric service? What are my payment options?
  8. If I have questions about my bill or complaints about your service, who do I contact?
  9. If I decide to switch from your company to another energy supplier, what are the steps for doing so? Is there any cost for switching?
  10. Are you currently licensed by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) to sell electric energy?

Check with your distribution utility – for their distribution, transmission charges and your competitive transition charge (CTC). You’ll have these charges no matter where you buy your generation.
