Tri-County adopted levelized billing to replace budget billing in 2019 to best serve members. Unlike budget billing, with levelized billing, there is never a need for a once-a-year “true-up,” because participants’ bills are adjusted every month. Their current month’s kilowatt-hour use is combined with that of the previous 11 months and divided by 12 to come a levelized amount for which they are billed. In this way the variance between billings is reduced, making the members’ budget more manageable. Levelized billing works well for all members, but is ideal for members on a fixed income, because there is not a significant amount due at the end of a year as can be the reality with budget billing.
Lower Income Assistance
Members can also receive emergency financial assistance to help keep their lights on through programs like the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and Tri-County’s Family-In-Need fund. LIHEAP can assist low income members in paying their electric bill. The Family In Need Fund is an opportunity for Tri-County members to voluntarily donate to families in need through rounding their electric bill up the nearest dollar. Outside organizations like the Area Agency on Aging are also a great source for help for our elderly members.
