TRI-COUNTY AWARDS $6,000 GRANT TO CAMP CADET PROGRAM

MANSFIELD, PA (July 1, 2022) — Tri-County Rural Electric Cooperative and CoBank have teamed up to award $6,000 to the Northern Tier Camp Cadet program.

A $3,000 donation from Tri-County, matched by a $3,000 donation from CoBank, one the cooperative’s lenders, will help offset costs of operating the summer camp, which is held at Mansfield University each June.

“Thank you to Tri-County Electric for donating to Northern Tier Camp Cadet,” said trooper Lauren Lesher, community service officer for Pennsylvania State Police Troop F, Montoursville, and director of Camp Cadet programs in Tioga and Lycoming counties. “Without donations like this, we would not be able to keep this program going.”

Camp Cadet is a five-day summer camp aimed at introducing boys and girls between the ages of 12 and 13 to various aspects of the criminal justice system and establishing a positive relationship with law enforcement personnel.

Designed to provide children with training similar to what would be encountered at a police academy, Camp Cadet is staffed by state police troopers, local police officers and other volunteers and takes place at various locations throughout Pennsylvania each summer.

The camps focus on discipline, self-esteem, teamwork, drug and alcohol education, violence prevention and other issues facing today’s youth.

“Northern Tier Camp Cadet offers a fantastic learning opportunity for boys and girls interested in law enforcement, and we are proud to support such a worthwhile program,” said Rachel Hauser, Tri-County co-CEO. “We are thankful for the opportunity to demonstrate ‘concern for community,’ one of the core cooperative principles, by supporting this local effort to provide a positive and fun experience for dozens of local kids each summer.”

Tri-County funded its portion of the Camp Cadet donation through its community services grant program. The program utilizes unclaimed capital credits refunds to support non-profit organizations that provide services aimed at improving the lives of those within the cooperatives’ service territory. The grant program does not affect electric rates.

The cooperative secured a matching grant through CoBank’s Sharing Success program. Based in Greenwood Village, Colo., CoBank is one of the largest private providers of credit to the rural economy, delivering loans, leases and other financial services to agribusiness and rural infrastructure in all 50 states.
